Description

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak is one of the best comfort food ideas for a cozy and healthy weeknight dinner and meanwhile it uses easy ingredients and a quick prep process for a simple homemade meal everyone enjoys and furthermore the tender beef patties simmer in rich onion gravy until perfectly soft and flavorful and this hearty recipe also works wonderfully for meal prep and potluck gatherings and holiday family dinners when you need a filling and satisfying classic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large sliced onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Place the ground beef with breadcrumbs and egg and Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder and salt and black pepper into a large bowl and meanwhile gently combine everything until the mixture becomes soft and slightly sticky. Shape the beef mixture into four uneven oval patties and leave slight cracks and rough edges for a natural homemade appearance and the patties should look thick and tender rather than perfectly smooth.
  2. Arrange sliced onions and mushrooms over and around the beef patties and meanwhile let some pieces overlap naturally while others fall into the edges of the cooking liquid. Pour the beef broth mixed with gravy mix over the patties and vegetables and the liquid should partially cover the beef while leaving parts of the patties visible on top.
  3. The beef patties slowly soften while the onions become tender and translucent and meanwhile the gravy thickens into a rich glossy sauce around the meat. The mushrooms darken slightly and the patties develop deeper brown coloring along the edges while the sauce clings unevenly to the surface creating a hearty homemade texture.
  4. Transfer one beef patty onto a plate with mashed potatoes and spoon extra onion mushroom gravy over the top and meanwhile allow the sauce to drip naturally across the sides of the potatoes. Scatter chopped parsley unevenly over the finished serving and the final dish should look rich and hearty with visible gravy texture and browned beef edges.

Notes

Pro Tips:

  • Use ground beef with moderate fat content because extra fat keeps the patties tender and prevents dry texture during slow cooking.
  • Slice the onions unevenly instead of perfectly thin because thicker pieces hold their texture better in the rich gravy.
  • Allow the gravy to rest for several minutes before serving because the sauce thickens naturally and coats the patties more evenly.
  • Serve the patties over mashed potatoes or rice because the rich gravy spreads beautifully and creates a hearty filling meal.

Storage: Store leftover Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak in an airtight container and meanwhile keep extra gravy with the patties so the meat stays moist during reheating. Refrigerate the dish for up to four days and allow the patties to cool slightly before sealing the container to preserve the best texture. Reheat the patties slowly on the stovetop or in the microwave and add a splash of beef broth if the gravy becomes too thick after chilling. Freeze individual portions with gravy in freezer safe containers and thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating for the best flavor and texture.
