Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper sliced
  • 1 cup carrots julienned
  • 4 green onions sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 2 cups cooked white rice

Instructions

  1. Slice 1 lb flank steak thinly against the grain and toss with 2 tbsp cornstarch to coat evenly. Tip this helps create tender beef and a slightly thickened sauce later.
  2. In a bowl combine 3 tbsp soy sauce 2 tbsp brown sugar 2 cloves minced garlic 1 tsp grated ginger and 1/4 cup water then mix until sugar dissolves.
  3. Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a wok or skillet over medium high heat until hot.
  4. Add the beef strips in a single layer and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes stirring occasionally until browned.
  5. Add 1 cup julienned carrots 1 sliced red bell pepper and 4 sliced green onions then stir fry for 2 minutes until slightly tender.
  6. Pour in the prepared sauce and cook while stirring for another 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables.
  7. Remove from heat and sprinkle 1 tsp sesame seeds over the stir fry.
  8. Serve the Mongolian beef stir fry over 2 cups cooked white rice and garnish with extra green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Slice beef very thin for best tenderness.
  • Use high heat when stir frying for better flavor.
  • Add chili flakes if you prefer a spicy version.
  • Sesame oil can be added at the end for extra aroma.
